S.C.R.A.P. System

Hi Ladies We have 121 days before we retreat to Eden. During that time, we want to challenge you. We know what an overwhelming thing it is to pack up supplies, pictures and such to go away from home to scrapbook. So, instead of bringing EVERYTHING, we are going to give you tips each week to help you organize, evaluate what you have and need to bring and make the most of your retreat time. ( For you readers who are not coming to our retreat – this information will work for you too!)

The system we are going to give you is S.C.R.A.P. Simple, Creative, Remarkable, Artistic Pages. When you are organized, you can make the best use of your time. S.C.R.A.P. will be the outcome of your efforts. S.C.R.A.P. is a system of organizing your scrapbook materials and making your own page kits in advance so that when retreat finally gets here, you can get to scrappin”.

Supplies needed for each S.C.R.A.P. kit:

Page protector or file folder or Ziploc baggie for the paper size

Page planner sheet http://kvisit.com/SteJ1

Post it notes

Step 1 Sort your photos from a pack, a photo album or that shoebox under your bed! Pull the best photos and put them in your page protector. Write pertinent info on the back of the other photos for future reference and replace back in storage. GOAL: to have your photos organized. TIP: Start with the most recent photos and work backwards. Also, working with the photos that interest you most will help you get going.

Step 2 Using your Page Planner sheet, create your page on paper by noting the following: How many photos of the event How many pages needed (can be approximate) Subject Title ideas Journaling Color scheme from the photos Embellishments Tools Needed When creating your S.C.R.A.P. kits, some themes, color schemes and titles will be very obvious. Just fill in the areas that you can. You can always add more ideas as you go. GOAL: To organize your thoughts onto paper so that you can assemble workable kits. TIP: Many page layouts can be sketched out on paper. Use the backside of your page planner sheet to rough sketch your layout idea. Use magazines layouts as inspiration.

Step 3 Now it is time to go shopping! Wait --- first, go to your personal “store”. Pull from your paper stash, cardstock and embellishments to create your S.C.R.A.P. kit. If you do not have what you need, list it on your Page Planner sheet for a shopping list. You will be amazed at how focused you will be with your list in front of you when you go shopping. GOAL: To use the supplies that you have already before spending more $$ TIP: If you need to go shopping, take the kits that need supplies with you to match up photos to paper, paper to embellishments – etc.

GET IN THE HABIT Once you have started to assemble S.C.R.A.P. kits, when cropping at home or away, just grab your kits – check the tool list – and get cropping! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE IT ALL WITH YOU! Time scrapbooking goes so fast when we finally have the time. Do not spend your valuable minutes loading and unloading your car, searching through your supplies and feeling totally overwhelmed! (Also, your back will thank you!) The system will clear oodles of time for you. Try it! It works! It will take about 20 page kits before the habit is securely in place. Please comment on your successes.

  2. This is exactly what I do when I go on a scrapbooking trip, just because I am easily overwhelmed and not very creative - in other words, I can sit there for the whole first day completely stymied about what to do once I get unpacked. Thanks for sharing, Pat. I hadn't thought of doing this in my everyday scrapping and am stuck right now - I will use your tip! Your retreats sound like so much fun! Maybe some day I'll be able to go to Utah to attend one. :)

  3. I've been using this system with the jumbo slider bags for quite a while, and it really helps! Love Love Love your page planner sheets, and cen't wait to start using them! BTW, the jumbo slider bags were on sale last week at Smith's. Think the sale is over now, but if I see them on sale again before the retreat, I'll let you know! Thanks for everything you do for us. You're great!!
